Reminder - COHO meeting and info on COHO member events

íFeliz Cinco de Mayo! It is a celebration of the day that the Mexican army turned back French troops at the Battle of Puebla, despite overwhelming odds.

Cinco de Mayo Celebrations and events planned this weekend by COHO members include:


The Guadalupe Center's Cinco de Mayo fiesta and art exhibit at 1015 Avenida Cesar Chavez. Art exhibit to be held in their art gallery on Friday 5/6 between 9am - 4pm, the fiesta will be held on Saturday 5/7 from noon - 9pm and on Sunday 5/8 from noon - 5 pm. GCI will also have a breakfast on Sunday 5/8 from 8am - noon and a Mariachi Mass at noon on Sunday 5/8 at the Shrine of Our of Lady of Guadalupe located at 901 Avenida Cesar Chavez.

The Hispanic Chamber's Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in the Heartland at Crown Center will be held on Friday 5/6 from 5pm - 10pm, Saturday 5/7 from noon - 10pm and on Sunday 5/8 from noon - 7pm.

On May 10th, two COHO member agencies will be sponsoring events, that while appearing to compete due to their timing, actually compliment each other with regard their intended beneficiaries:

1) El Centro, Inc. will hold a fundraiser to benefit the case filed on behalf of immigrants students and instate tuition at Sumner Academy, 1610 N. 8th Street, KCK from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Peter Roos, attorney for the case will make a short presentation, donations will be requested at the event. Their flyer and more information are highlighted below. The date of the event was moved to May 10th due to the postponement of the case.

2) Assistance to Parents Of Youth Organization will hold its 5th annual Dia de Las Madres event at Theme Party Emporium, 2420 Merriam Lane, KCK. from 5pm to 9pm, cost is $30. Cost includes reception, program and short dance with food available. APOYO provides parent education programs and family support services to predominantly immigrant mothers of children birth to three years old.

Mabel Tinjaca, PhD. will give a short presentation on mother's importance in the family and Gloria Botello will perform during the program and Richard Trejo and his group Cariño will provide entertainment from 7pm to 9pm after the program. May 10th is Mother's Day in Mexico - íCelebra Su Mama! is planned as fundraiser for APOYO and celebration of mothers. Haz una click aqui for more information.
