COHO June meeting at Argentine Community Center

¡Hola! The June meeting of the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations will take place on Friday, June 1st at the Argentine Community Center, 2810 Metropolitan Avenue, Kansas City, KS at 8am.

Presenters tomorrow morning will include Emily Haverkamp, Attorney at The Mdivani Law Firm. Emily will update us on the legislation introduced in Washington, D.C. and how that impacts us in KC. She will be joined by KS Representative Louis Ruiz and MO Representative Michael Talboy who will discuss actions taken and introduced in their respective State Legislatures and how we can prepare for the upcoming sessions.

Please mark your calendar to attend a town hall meeting with US Under Secretary of Education, Sara Martinez Tucker Monday, June 4, 2007 on the University of Missouri – Kansas City ’s campus in Pierson Auditorium.

As under secretary, Tucker is responsible for helping to implement the work of U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings’ Commission on the Future of Higher Education. Tucker coordinates policies, programs and activities related to vocational and adult education, postsecondary education, college aid and the President’s financial reforms for the Pell Grant program.

Previously, Tucker served as President and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, generating funds for $195 million in scholarships to more than 78,000 students and leading the launch of community outreach programs to raise college expectations in Latino families and communities.
