Just want to remind you that the June meeting of the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations will be held at El Centro, Inc,
Our guest presenter will be Brenda Sharpe, President and CEO of the REACH Foundation, she will be accompanied by foundation staff.
The REACH Healthcare Foundation was established in 2003 with proceeds from the sale of Health Midwest, a regional nonprofit healthcare organization purchased by Hospital Corporation of
The REACH Foundation was approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in May 2004, and the following month received nearly $100 million in initial assets. The Foundation later received an additional $10 million in assets from CHG. These assets have since grown to $142.5 million.
Over the past four years, the Foundation has awarded more than $8.3 million in grants. Grant and program support has increased from $1.7 million in 2005 to $4.8 million in 2007.
Since its establishment, the Foundation has focused its investments in three areas – safety-net health services, oral health and mental health. In addition, the Foundation has funded and/or helped launch several initiatives in the areas of
children's oral health, the nursing workforce, the HPV vaccine, medical homes, strengthened safety-net care, healthcare reform analysis and a regional health journalism fellowship program.
Our second presenter will be Amy Mulligan Kennedy, Greater Kansas City Council of Philanthropy, Education and Members Services Manager. Amy will speak on the Council's efforts to provide board training to candidates who are new to serving on non profit boards or who would like to brush up on their skills. The Council is encouraging members of the Latino, African American and other communities of people of color to consider non profit board membership.
